What is it?
Urgent® PC is a minimally invasive treatment for overactive bladder (OAB) and related urinary symptoms such as urgency, frequency, and urge incontinence. It works by gently stimulating the posterior tibial nerve near the ankle, which helps regulate bladder activity through connections in the spinal cord.
How is it done?
- Performed in the clinic (outpatient procedure)
- A very fine needle electrode is inserted near the ankle
- A mild electrical pulse is delivered via a stimulator for about 30 minutes
- Signals travel up the tibial nerve to the sacral nerve plexus, which controls bladder function
- Most patients describe the sensation as tingling or pulsing in the foot or toes
Treatment Course:
- Typically given once a week for 12 weeks
- Maintenance sessions may be needed every 3–4 weeks to sustain benefit
- No anaesthesia or recovery time required – patients can return to normal activities
